How do you make the game?
Type three lines and pick a character:
- Choose the snowman, Rudolph or Santa. The big title on the poster follows the character until you type your own.
- Add the line under the title: a child’s name, the family, or the class, such as “Room 12’s Christmas party”.
- Set how many players are coming. The nose sheet prints one numbered nose per player, up to 36.
The kit downloads as one PDF: the poster, the nose sheet, the blindfold bands and the rules card. The poster also saves as a PNG if you want to show it on a screen instead of a wall.
How does pin the nose on the snowman work?
The poster hangs on the wall with the dashed ring showing where the nose belongs. Each player gets one nose and a rolled piece of sticky tape. Blindfolded, turned round twice and pointed at the wall, they walk forward and press their nose where they think it goes. Numbers on the noses tell you whose is whose, so the closest nose wins without an argument. The rules card in the kit has the six steps written out, so the players can run the game themselves.
For the classroom version, print the numbered noses, hand out number 1 to number 24, and let the class play one after another during the party. One poster carries the whole class.
How do I assemble a tiled poster?
Pick a poster size (12 x 18 in up to 20 x 30 in, or A2) and the kit grows a plan page and one sheet per tile. Each sheet prints its piece of the poster, a dashed line on the edges where the next sheet overlaps, a calibration bar, and a label such as “Sheet 3 of 9 · row 1, column 3”.
Assembly, in order:
- Print all sheets at 100 percent (actual size). “Fit to page” shrinks the poster and the overlaps stop meeting.
- Check the 1-inch calibration bar on each sheet against a ruler.
- Lay sheet 1 (row 1, column 1) on the wall or table, then trim the long edge of the next sheet at its dashed line and lay it over the first, up to the line.
- Work left to right, row by row, following the numbers on the assembly map, and tape the seams on the back.
The sheets overlap by 8 mm, so small trims do not show once the poster is up.
Which paper should I print on?
Plain office paper is fine for a first game. For a poster that survives a whole evening of children walking into it, print the tile sheets on 160 to 200 g/m2 matte paper, or take the PNG to a copy shop and print the poster in one piece. The nose sheet cuts better from slightly heavier paper too; card holds its shape once the noses are cut out.
Keep the game going after the poster comes down: the reindeer food toppers feed the reindeer on Christmas Eve, the Christmas paper chain counts the days until it, and a letter from Santa sits beside the poster for the child whose name is on it. The magic reindeer food guide covers that craft: what goes in the bag, which poem to print on the topper, and the class-set math. The whole bench is on the Christmas page.
Questions
How does pin the nose on the snowman work?
Hang the poster on the wall, blindfold a player, turn them round twice and hand them their nose. They press it where they think it belongs. The nose closest to the dashed ring on the poster wins. The dashed ring marks the spot the nose is meant to cover.
Why are the noses numbered?
One nose per player, numbered 1 to however many you are. After the round you can see exactly whose nose landed where, which settles the argument and works for a whole class. Untick the box for blank noses instead.
Can I print a big poster for the wall?
Yes. Pick 12 x 18 in, 18 x 24 in, 20 x 30 in or A2 and the poster prints at true size across several sheets, with an assembly map, a calibration bar to check your printer against a ruler, cut marks and a label on every sheet.
How many sheets does the big poster take?
A 20 x 30 in or A2 poster takes 9 sheets on A4 and on US Letter, an 18 x 24 in takes 9, and a 12 x 18 in takes 4, plus one assembly map. Each sheet overlaps the next by 8 mm, so the seams stay easy.
Will it print on US Letter paper?
Yes. Set Paper to US Letter and every page, from the one-page poster to the last sheet of a tiled poster, is drawn for Letter at true size. On A4, set it to A4. The calibration bar on each page tells you if the print came out the wrong size.
